LARYNGITIS
Laryngitis is an inflammation of the voice box or larynx. Laryngitis causes the patient to have a hoarse voice or may produce a complete loss of the voice because of irritation to the vocal folds (vocal cords). The most common causes are viral infections, bacterial or fungal infections, inflammation due to overuse of the vocal cords, and excessive coughing, smoking, or alcohol consumption.
