BARIUM ENEMA
A Barium Enema is a special type of x-ray that is used to examine the Colon (Large Intestine) for abnormalities such as colon cancer, Diverticular disease and early colon obstruction (blockage). At the beginning of the Barium Enema examination, a small lubricated rubber tube is inserted into the rectum and Barium is run into the colon under gravity. The passage of the Barium into the colon can be followed under the x-ray and abnormal areas of the colon can be evaluated by the Radiologist (a specialist that is trained to read these X-rays)
